Domaine Calage Resseguier
Vintner
Once upon a time in a small Languedoc village there were three wine making friends, they loved their land, good wines and sharing a good meal. They decided that they would produce their own wine, a wine that was not like any other, a wine that would reflect their character, a wine for their friends, a wine that, when you tasted it, you would remember to thank life for its simple pleasures. This is how, in the year two thousand, Domaine CALAGE–RESSEGUIER came to pass.
8 hectares of vines in a mosaic of small parcels wrenched from the undergrowth by our forefathers going by evocative names such as ‘Garafach' (war maker), ‘Rompudes' (seasoned) … grudgingly offering bunches of grapes dripping in promise. We joyfully accept whatever Mother Nature deigns to bestow upon us without ever trying to force her into it.

We have two very different, yet complementary, soil types:
- one is clayey-limestone, very stony, next to the scrub land of the Pli de Montpellier contributing power, roundedness with rich aromas;
- the other is schistous in a range of truffles on the red soiled banks of lake Salagou, offering finesse, elegance and a widely varied aromatic range.

Our wines thus offer highly interesting originality and complexity.
On the strength of this magnificent potential we aim for nothing less than excellence. We make use of the latest technologies which serve the deepest traditions of wine making know how. Organic cultivation, painstakingly hand-worked vines and precision cellar skills applied all year round, leave no room for half measures.

There is no showy demonstration around the cellar but make no mistake either! Its modesty is no cloak for efficiency.

The terraced roofing means we can fill the tanks by gravity: containers of grapes are brought to the roof area where they are de-stemmed, placed above the corresponding tank and then sent for maceration.
Open air, temperature regulated, small dimensioned tanks adapted to manual cap punching. The ageing cellar holds our barrels in a calm, humid and cool atmosphere all year round.

Bottling is carried out without fining or filtration for the reds on our own mobile bottling line, bought within the framework of an economic cooperation group with other winemaking friends with the aim of total quality control.
The modesty of our production means we can give ourselves the supreme luxury: ‘getting up every morning for a day of pleasure and not labour'. Georges Brassens pleaded for the right to die on holiday, our idea is more like spending our life in an environment that gives a holiday like pleasure!

And if our wines give pleasure to others, then we are surely doing something right: we are delighted to share our devotion and pleasure which, when shared, is not so selfish after all.

Finally, so as not to influence consumers by means of citations or medals, we have taken the decision to never present our wines for competitions.
